Service Lead/Approver – Community Zakat Programme (CZP)
Islamic Association of North London (IANL) in partnership with National Zakat Foundation (NZF)
The Service Lead/Approver is a key voluntary role responsible for overseeing the implementation and day-to-day operation of the NZF Community Zakat Programme (CZP) at IANL.
We are looking for a trustworthy and committed individual to ensure the programme runs efficiently, compliantly, and with dignity for all beneficiaries.
Role Responsibilities
Programme Management

Oversee the implementation and operation of the CZP at IANL

Appoint and manage volunteer IANL assessors (initially 1 session per week)

Ensure adequate coverage and scheduling of assessment appointments

Participate in monthly/quarterly reviews with NZF
Application Processing & Approval

Review applications completed by IANL assessors during appointments
-
Ensure applications are processed within required timeframes
-
Coordinate with NZF to obtain reimbursement payments
Financial & Administrative Oversight
-
Maintain accurate records of all transactions and beneficiaries
-
Keep separate financial records for Zakat funds
-
Document and submit payments and beneficiary records
-
Prepare quarterly/annual reports on programme impact

Support NZF audits and compliance checks
Compliance & Safeguarding
-
Establish compliant surgery areas within IANL
-
Act as joint data controller with NZF under UK GDPR
-
Report serious incidents to NZF
Training & Development
-
Complete mandatory NZF training (Zakat distribution, safeguarding, compliance)
-
Attend refresher training as required
-
Ensure volunteer assessors are trained
-
Stay updated on policies and procedures
Community Engagement

Facilitate signposting of IANL and local support services
-
Deliver a dignified service that maintains community trust

Support effective programme communication within the community
-
Foster engagement between beneficiaries and the mosque

Skills & Experience

Experience in financial administration (preferred)

Understanding of Islamic principles, particularly Zakat

Basic IT skills (online portals, documentation)

Ability to work sensitively with vulnerable individuals

Experience in community or charity work (desirable)
Compliance Requirements

Must undergo DBS check
-
Must complete NZF mandatory training
-
Must understand GDPR and data protection
-
Commitment to ongoing training and development
Working Arrangements

Voluntary position
-
5–6 hours per week initially, reducing to ~3 hours once established

1 session per week (expansion possible after trial period)

Sessions scheduled around mosque activities and quiet times

Private interview and waiting spaces provided
