Financial Aid

IANL helps supports local families in need

The alms are meant only for the poor and the needy and those who are in charge thereof, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and to free those in bondage, and to help those burdened with debt, and for expenditure in the Way of Allah and for the wayfarer. This is an obligation from Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.”

(Qur’an 9:60)

Financial Aid Service

IANL offers a financial aid service that collects a limited amount of Sadaqah and Zakah and distributes it to those in the local community who are in financial need. This service is aimed at Muslim residents of the London Borough of Barnet who are in desperate need of short-term assistance.

The service aims to provide financial relief for the following:

  • Basic Costs – such as food, essential and unavoidable travel, clothing and monthly bills
  • Housing costs – such as rent and deposits
  • Household items – such as basic furniture in exceptional circumstances
  • Debt relief in certain circumstances

The application procedure requires the submission of supporting evidence such as communications with and statements from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), The Police, local Council(s) or other institutions, bank statements, payslips, details of expenses, information about savings and the value of personal possessions such as gold.

Hakim ibn Hizam, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “The hand which gives is better than which takes and start giving first to your dependents. And the best object of charity is that which is given by a wealthy person (from the money which is left after his expenses) [out of surplus]. And whoever abstains from asking others for some financial help, Allah will give him and save him from asking others, Allah will make him self-sufficient”
