Community Zakat Program

Zakat is a sacred trust. The rules for who can receive Zakat are stipulated by Islamic scholars, and we follow them carefully so that Zakat reaches those who qualify. Our volunteers cannot make exceptions — please take a moment to read the rules before you apply.

What is the Community Zakat Programme?

The Community Zakat Programme is a partnership between the Islamic Association of North London (IANL) and the National Zakat Foundation (NZF). It provides direct financial support to Muslim individuals and families in the Barnet area who are facing financial hardship.

If your application is approved, you will receive a payment voucher you can collect from any Post Office. The minimum grant amount depends on your household:

Approved minimum grant by household size

Household Approved minimum grant
Single person £140
Couple £230
3 People £260
4 People £280
5 People £300
6 People £320

Maximum grant of £320 per household per 12-month period.

How does it work?

From application to payment is usually 1 to 2 weeks. Here’s what happens at each step:

1 – Check your eligibility

Answer a few simple questions to see if this programme may be able to help you.

2 – Prepare your documents

Gather your photo ID, proof of address, and any benefits documentation before your visit.

3 – Book an appointment

Choose a convenient time to visit Finchley Mosque for your assessment.

4 – Attend your appointment

Meet with a trained volunteer in a private, welcoming setting. They will help complete your application.

5 – Application review

Your application is reviewed by our approver and then by NZF to ensure everything is in order.

6- Receive your support

If approved, you will receive a secure payment link by email within 1–2 weeks to collect your grant at any Post Office.

Think you may qualify?

Read the eligibility rules, then start your application. The whole process should take about 10 minutes.
