Introduction
Welcome to the Finchley Mosque (IANL) Reverts Circle! If you are a revert or a non-Muslim interested to learn more about Islam, you are in the right place!
We are delighted to host a monthly gathering (“Monthly Reverts Circle”) providing an opportunity to meet other reverts in the community, to hear a short beneficial reminder from the Imam (or a guest speaker), and to ask any questions. The talks are focused on the essentials of Islam – namely the core beliefs (articles of faith) and the most important practices / acts of worship.
This is also a social event and we serve hot food and refresments so that you can can get to know other revert Muslims and build friendships. We usually do some group reflections or hear the story of one of our reverts.
We have been running the Circle for over 4 years (we started in September 2022).
Date and Time
Revert circle is held on the first Sunday of the month, at Finchley Mosque.
There are usually only 2 months of the year in which we do not offer the Circle – August and Ramadan (currently February).
Please note that our next session is due to take place on Sunday 4th October 2026 at 5:15 pm.
What to expect
One of the most important things for us is that Circle is friendly and welcoming for all, and we try to ensure that it’s a suitable environment for reverts of all backgrounds.
We typically receive between 35 – 45 attendees each month, split evenly between brothers & sisters ranging in age from 15yrs – 80yrs (most are between 20 – 40). We provide food for everyone and childcare for those bringing kids along. Some of our attendees have been Muslim for just a few weeks / months, and others for more than a decade. Most of our attendees are between 0 – 5 years in the faith.
We do not have a dress code – and simply ask that attendees dress modestly.
What are the aims of the circle
The Circle’s aims are broadly 3-fold:
- Deliver appropriate talks for the growing revert community;
- Provide a social space where reverts can meet other likeminded individuals & make friends who are on a similar journey of faith with the challenges that may present. We find reverts often learn and relate best to other reverts so providing the opportunity to meet others is really important; and
- Allow reverts to connect with & feel comfortable inside a Mosque, especially as we understand how nervous and apprehensive people can be to step foot inside.
Who may attend
The Circle is suitable and accessible for the following:
- Reverts (regardless of whether new to the faith or reverted many years ago)
- Family of reverts (spouses & children – whether Muslim or non-Muslim)
- Non-Muslims who are interested in Islam (you can bring a Muslim friend to accompany you).
Do I need to register?
Registration helps us plan food, drink and the necessary support for those attending. Please complete the online form below (takes 1 minute!) or email us at reverts@ianl.org.uk to reserve your spot at our next session!
Our WhatsApp Group
We have a WhatsApp group for our revert community. It’s admin-only which means there are not a lot of messages that get circulated, however it’s the best, quickest and most efficient way to receive updates regarding our sessions. We also use the group to occasionally share beneficial reminders or news of other events taking place in London that may be of interest to the revert community. If you would like to be added to the group, please mention it to one of our volunteers at the Circle and they will be happy to facilitate this.
Buddy Scheme
We have a buddy scheme in operation (for those who wish to participate) which pairs our newest Muslims with other reverts who have been Muslim for several years, settled in the faith and who are well integrated in the community. If this is something of interest to you, please reach out! The buddy would be available to assist through the transition period (typically the first year or so), through accompanying the new Muslim to the Mosque if required, answering questions / offering advice on some of the challenges reverts experience in their first year(s), introducing to other Muslims etc.
Quran Classes
We run weekly Quran classes for both brother and sisters which are aimed at new Muslims. There is no need to have an prior knowledge of reading the Quran or reading Arabic to attend these classes. Please email reverts@ianl.org.uk for further information.
Shahadah Services
Taking your Shahadah is a special moment and we want to support you in the way that suits you. If you would like to take your Shahadah with us then we can help organise it and have it in a comfortable an rememerable setting. We also provide Shahadah Certificates.
Want to find out more about Islam?
We regularly have non-Muslims who attend our montly Circle but outside of the Circle we are always happy to support seekers of truth on their journeys. If you have questions about Islam, or want to clarify about becoming Muslim, then please email us at reverts@ianl.org.uk and we will be happy to help.
